Ben had a good  week with lots of support.  We now have appointments in the diary for follow up urology - post surgery and one is November with regard to the stoma reversal. Physio going well. We are trying to walk everyday as well as carry out a lorry load of exercises.

Ben is weary today but put that down to some late nights - had a nice, chilled, quiet family day with no visitors - first time in ages and it was bloody lovely :))

Happy Birthday to George D yesterday - and another late night for Ben with the old school crowd

So glad you managing to get out and spend time with your friends again Ben there are sooooooo many peope out there who love you so make the most of it hon ;)

Wednesday 19th October 2011

Morning bloggers,

Ben is coping better day by day we are getting used to and finding new ways to do things.  We went to out patient physio yesterday and saw a new guy called Robin as we sacked the last Ravi wankerdom! Robin was great and really inspirational he was amazed at how well Ben has progressed since the accident.  Robyn accessed Bens xrays and really didnt have very high expectations of his ability or levels of physical strength - so well done Ben and another good guy on the team.  Ben will be under the supervison of Robin for the next 6 months or so. He needs to up his walking and keeping working on building wasted muscle -  roll on the new house and we can walk along the sea front :)

Bens up and down emotionally because of the accident but he has great support from his friends and family, he's keeping really busy and having some normal fun times with the boys again :))  Thanks for Monday Shane was lovely to catch up and grrrrrrr and la la la :) even though it was soooooooooo FIFA loud lol. Joe, Phil and Fred you are the 'BOYS' amazing and thanks a million  x  Really good for him last night Stevie Mac - normaldom and was great to see your lovely parents.

Lovely to see Graham on Monday you really do always say the right things and bring things back into perspective when the going gets tough! Looking forward again x

Lots more going on to keep Ben busy and his spirits up until our next out-patient appointment the week after next.

Its been a difficult week for us all but its improving.  Lots less stress in the house and moving forward in many ways.

You are doing great Ben and deserve everything the future holds for you. You are an amazing young man and have so much to look forward to. Keep positive and believe in yourself as you have sooooooooo much to give and deserve so much more in your life :)

lots of love x

Monday 17th October (Day 148)

Ben came home on Friday afternoon as he was getting really down in the dumps being stuck in hospital again . He just wanted to be back here with us so we made it happen. He does so much better when he's here :)

He is coping better but it is very difficult for him and he has so much to do and remember. Unfortunately the complications of the latest surgery are making some of his exercises quite difficult but he is doing really well - well done Ben love!

Thanks to all his friends for their continued support you guys are all amazing medicine for Ben and  have helped him to see things clearly and positively. With the support and love of you guys and his family Ben continues to amaze us all.

Special thanks to the Albany and Perry Sopho, to Stevie Mc, Sam Pye and Rosie Barrett for Friday night :) - was soooooooooooooooooooooo funny! Special thanks to Mr Stoughton for yesterday :) and to Shane who is here right now :)

Same as always keep the positivity coming this way for Ben he needs your energy and good wishes x

Thursday 13th October 2011

Ben had his operation yesterday the stent had been placed into the damaged section of the urethra it will stay in situ and allow the area to continue to repair for the next few months. The urethral catheter has been removed and the super pubic replaced and spiggoted so that the access is available in case of an emergency.

The actual proceedure went well. Ben was in a lot of pain last night as the anaesthetic wore off. Poor sod is knackered but calmer and sleeping at the minute.

Unfortunatley due to his internal injuries Ben is now faced with further associated complications.

Mr. Junaid (Bens surgeon) has been to see us this morning to discuss the operation and options. He wants Ben to be monitored in here over the next 48 hours. The Sister just came in to say he has a specialist nurse appointment at 11.30 this morning so lets see what that brings.

And so it goes on and fucking on! 1 step forward and 10 steps back -  so sorry you have to go through all this shit Ben we would give anything to make it all go away and you get your life back

Cant wait for October 13th 2012

:(

Tuesday 11th October

Well that was a stupid bleedin day :((

Cut a long story short Ben didn't not have his operation today as they appear to have forgotten to order the stent! The only piece of kit needed for the job?

Poor Ben's been well pissed off but we got motivated late afternoon, had a wash and polish up, did some pyhsio and then went for a pizza express with Dad

(Sorry Sam but you was busy in Brixton Town ummmmmmmmmm xx

They are aiming for tomorrow and were suitably embarrassed. Not good enough but what can we do!

Monday 10th October 2011

Morning all,

Apologies I know its been a while since I last visited there's been a lot of mending going on :)

If you are still reading then here's a bit of an update for you.

Bens been getting on really well, the hospital beds gone back and he is getting up and down the stairs so he is now sleeping in his own room again - but we do need to get him a more comfy bed!

His Orthopaedic surgeon is over the moon with his progress, his pelvis has been re-xrayed and all is looking really good. We have a fab physio who comes to the house, her name is Toni and she is really great. Toni goes the extra mile thats for sure, bless her last week she turned up with her husbands playstation/steering wheel/pedals and racing game so that Ben could practice with the pedals as a means of physio for his right leg and foot :))  Ben now has his little 'blue badge' and is happy to travel by car with his little pink arse cushion so we have just started to attend out patient physio as well.  Our first visit was last week and the guy was shit so he's been sacked.  We have a differant one to see once Ben comes out of hospital again.

The abdominal wound is nearly nearly healed just the last little bit left to go :)

Bens still working hard with regard to getting the  nerve signal's going to his right foot and toes. There's now a little movement in the toes and his specialist said this is really positive :) He gets around for short distances with his crutch or alternatively in his wheelchair. Theres a little bit of 'podge' around the belly lol - the weights definatley gone back on and the muscles are looking mean :)  Well done that man and thanks Matt and everyone else who has been helping with the weights

We have been in Barts since Saturday as Ben was called in to go on IV antibiotics and fluids prior to his urological operation tomorrow. All your positive energy tomorrow for Ben at this is a biggy for him.

Everything is going well for us at the minute and Ben is in a good place.  He still gets down/angy and emotional but that is only to be expected with everything he has had to endure physically and mentally.

As Ben's physical ability continues to improve everything is gettting so much easier at home. There is so much less stress surrounding everyone now and it feels great.

Daves working really hard on getting the house ready for us and we are hoping to move the middle of November. Everyone's really looking forward to a fresh start and leaving a lot of crap behind. Sam will be nearer to university, (Pye will be nearby to keep the luv thang going)) I need to get back to work (lol) Dave will hopefully get some local work on top of the usual stuff  (he's already been approached)

Ben's been given a second chance :)  Go for it kiddo you're young and have lots of catching up to do
follow your dreams and explore that big bad world theres plenty of time to play grown ups and be old and grey (ask Dad!)  hahahah

Go nuts Staaby

Wednesday 21st September

Dont know where the time has gone it so hard to keep up with everything :((

Ben doing really well he still has up and down days but is really progressing and trying to stay positive.  We have made a lot of changes at home and it makes things much more norlam for all of us.

The nurses are still coming in for his abdominal wound and catheter sites and we also have the physio comig home - she is great and setting challenges for Ben

Ben still get tired but I think that is understandable and as long as he works hard I dont mind him kipping - cos his body is still mending :)  plus he loves a kip lol!

Abdominal wound is still healng - bloody thing seems to be taking forever, its looking good at the minute so just need to keep it infection free PLEASE!

Theres been plenty of stuff going on to keep Ben occupied so thats good  :))

He will be going back into Barts soon for a week or so under the care of the urologists - so fingers crossed for another huge step!!!  -   Good luck baby xx

Still need help with works out please ?????????

Thanks Matt and Nick this week xx

Thanks to everyone for their support and visits - you definately know who your friends are xx

Saturday 3rd September

Photo updates coming soon  ;))

Saturday 3rd September

So once transferrd back to trauma The Royal London he had more xrays and scans. Cut a long story short it was diagnosed that Bens urethal catheter had actually been wrongly fitted in theatre and therefore urine had been leaking into him abdominal cavity for best part of a week - no wonder the pain, infection and wound blisters!
Ben's man parts man were man handled (biggggg deep breath!) then rescanned the following day. All sorted in that department sorted for now.  Another 4 weeks till next out patient appointment and treatment plan.

I made an appointment to go see the top man Mr Junaid (who is Bens urologist) privately at The London Independent. What a lovely man, he is on a two week holiday from the NHS but upon his return he will look into the events of Bens stay in Barts and the circumstances surrounding it. Once he has a clearer picture he will call me.  I have asked to transfer Ben onto his private list for all future urological treatments as we no longer have confidence and its such an important and delicate area still to recover.  He said that as Ben's case is complicated and that he is under the trauma umberella of surgical speciality he will only transfer if its in Bens best interest.  However he assured us that in future if Ben remains under the NHS urologically he will see to him personally. So thats good then :))

Ben came home on Thursday night and he is so much better mentally.

Well done Ben for all you have had to put up with in the past couple of weeks. You continue to be an inspiration and I m soooooooo proud of you and everything you are achieving xx

Sam honey I am sooooooooooooo sorry I didnt notice how difficult you were finding things :((     Love you the world baby and promise to be more alert lol xx

Friday 2nd September

Well what an absolute shitweek :((   poor Ben has been put through it!

Last Bank Holiday weekend Ben was still having loads of abdominal pain which started after his catheter change the previous week.  We had noticed that his abdominal wounds were filled with fluid. When we asked if the fluid could be urine leaking in we were told no.  Ben had scans,  x rays and all sorts of concoctions - urology were insistent that his pain was due to wind or poo???????  When it was getting to much I called one of the trauma team doctors based at The Royal London.  She was an absolute star and got us transferred to The London with a matter of hours :))     (what a wonderful Fran - thankyou so much)

Sunday 28th August

Ben seems brighter today, made all shiny and squeeky clean 'a la Rachel'

He is eating and drinking better again.  When I came in earlier he had just managed a little go with the zimmer frame.  Still has addominal pain and has been sleeping ever since.

He is cross with himself because of the so called 'backward step'

Please stop beating yourself up Ben you are still progressing at a rate of knots! Be proud of yourself, we all are of you.

Things are going to continue to get better day by day.

You ARE amazing

Well done Super Ben

xx

Saturday 27th August 2011

Bens still here in Barts, its been utter crap for him for the past few days.  He has been in a lot of abdominal pain which has restricted him to laying flat on his back once again.  Ben is totally pissed off and down in the dumps :((    When he comes home he's gonna need you guys to bring him back up and help him get back into shape as his exercise and weights have gone out of the window for the past week.

Urologically Ben seems to be responding well to the antibiotic the microbiologists have put him on. As  long as he continues to respond he will be able to continue the treatment at home. The doctors are talking about Ben coming back home again on Tuesday. Mr Junaid his consultant urologist has been away on holiday we are keeen to see him on Tuesday upon his return.  Ben has an infection in him abdominal would but I am not sure what the score is with that? With regard to the perianal wound - its healed now :))

Crapsville for everyone at the minute

Thursday 25th August

Bens feeling a bit poo again today :(

I managed to speak to the Uroogist earlier today - he is still showing signs of infection even though both catheters have been changed.  The bacteria is not responding to the antibiotic being used so the microbiologist has requested the current medication is stopped until the results of the latest urine and blood tests are back.  This will take a couple of days.

In th meantime, still here getting on with it :(

Bens still in bed as he feels crap, such a backward step literally!

Wednesday 24th August

Hello Bloggers

Bens been making good progress with the frame and crutch support. He has been in good spirits and working hard with his physio.

Its been really difficult getting info out of anyone and speaking to the Doctors. The nurses are sooooooooo busy and are in short supply they seem to start and job and dont get round to finshing
 it :(

Tissue viability came on Monday and assessed Bens abdo wound - its looking a lot better so thats good news. Yesterday was a shit day he went down to theatre eventually to get his catheters changed. He didnt recover very well and was in a lot of pain.  This morning was crap for him as well.

Its coming up to 1800 and he's a lot better now.  He is eating and drinking properly but still has a lot of pain in his stomach - prob from the proceedure and being being man handled in theatre.

More bloods and urine have been taken and once the cultures are back we will know when Ben is able to come home again.  He is still on the anti-biotic drip.

Friday 19th August

Hello Bloggers

Another amazing progress day for Ben :))

Just to get the other bit and bobs out of the way first we are still waiting for the microbiologists results to come back about the infection.  He is on an antibiotic drip until they come back which will probably be Monday or Tuesday.  Looks like his abdominal wound might be a bit unhappy so we have the tissue viability nurse coming to see us on Monday lunchtime.  Ben is in good spirits and I think quite enjoying the change of scenery!

Theres a good chance he will go back to theatre early next week.

The nursing staff are in short supply and Ben is getting on their case lol ;))

Standing man transforms to walking man - woop woop

Ben had a  visit from 'Ben the physio' unfortunately for hm he turned up with a shit wheelchair so we sent him packing and told him not to return until he found something better ;)  He returned half an hour later with a very nice little wheelchair in tow - thanks a lot Ben :))  (think he was a little scared of me lol)

That out of the way and without to much instruction 'Ben the physio' asked 'ben the standing man' to WALK and he did all the way round the ward!!  Staaby decked out in designer pyjama shorts, blue and white stripey shoes and silver zimmer frame did the catwalk -  closely followed by mother holding bag of wee and wearing a big smile :))

WELL DONE THAT MAN !!!!

Thanks to Alex for a great visit and workout - you are such a lovely guy x

Beno cant wait to see what Saturday brings????  You continue to prove the doctors wrong and smash all the targets!

So excited for you Ben

Love loads

Ummmmmmmm now thats a little embarrasing going out wearing the same outfit ;))

Last weekend off to Rachels dads birthday get together

Thursday 18th August

So Ben standing - brill stuff

He is back in Barts with an infection but is actually fine in himself. He's hooked up to an antibiotic drug and having blood tests and shit again - they think he will be for a week with poss a trip to theatre planned for early next week.

I am off to the hospital shortly to try to get the physios to work with Ben whilst he is there. Its really important that now he had the go ahead he 'gets going'. He needs some sort of gutter frame to start off with. We are all really excited for Ben and he cant wait to learn to walk again :))

Ben is in Bedford Fenwick ward at Barts its situated around the main square and is on 2nd floor.  Visitors welcome to come and workout with Ben. Nearest tube is St Pauls and visiting is from 2 - 8pm restricted to 3 around the bed so either call first or take your chances.  Coffee with 3 sugars cake and reading material always welcome xx

Ben the 'standing man' been doing a lot of growing the past few months as he's 6' 7" now woo!

Monday 15th August

Morning all,

We're still here , the past week we havn't had any hospital appointments which is nice :))

Ben's continuing to recover really well. He is getting in and out of bed to his new chair or wheelchair and working hard with his exercises. The new physio Toni is great :) she really is pulling out all the stops for Ben - there is a meeting this morning to discuss his rehab she is hoping that spinal team will take him on board to work more with the right leg and foot, then Toni will also have him under her care for physio as well.  She has referred him to the feet peeps to get a night splint made which will help to keep Bens foot in the correct position. We have lots of new exercises to do, the days need to be longer to fit everthing in!

Bens been a bit emotional on and off this week I really think he has just about had enough and is ready for the next stage -  Wednesday cant come soon enough - I am sure his surgeon will tell him 'its time to stand'
scary scary scary but he is well ready. So again all your positive energy blown this way please.

Tuesday 9th August 2011

Cant believe we have been home since 30th July! just dont know where the time goes, theres just not enough hours in the day to get everything done

Ben is making great progress in all areas - and so he continues to amaze all of his medical team :))
He is getting very frustrated and just wants to be able to stand! We have another orthopaedic appointment on 17th August to assess the his pelvis/hips to see if he can put any weight through his legs - next stage will be to get Ben up with a frame!

Occupational health are still being crap!

Banned the old physio from my house :)

Got a new more experienced physio who seems to be great - (so far) she sounds like she knows what she's talking about and we feel confident so thats good :)

Got the chair we were after for Ben to be able to transfer to so thats good :)

Bought a slide board as occupational health are shite - managed to get Ben out for a couple of hours on Saturday evening which was great :) Bed to wheelchair and with help of the  slid board transfer to car/cab - well done Beno :))

Thanks a millions to the lads for helping out with Bens work outs at home - need some help this week Weds/Fri/Sat and Sunday please, please, please  -  give either Ben or me a buzz if you can spare a couple of hours?

As always thanks to everyone for their continued support

Wednesday 3rd August 2011

Operation day -  Urology at Barts - big day!

Not a great start Dumb and Dumber arrive hour and half late to take us to the hospital. They were meant to be with us at 0500 and turned up at 06.35 - so stressful! :((    Poor Ben has been waiting for this day and so anxious he wont get to the hospital in time for his operation.

I was so angry and didnt I let them know it!  Lazy bastards should have got up earlier, he said he was tired and didnt like early mornings, I told him to get a new job! WANKERDOM!

We were late grrrrrrrrrrr!

Ben was meant to go down to theatre for about 1.5 hours but disappeared for 3  hours :((

The point of today was to find out what Bens bladder and urethra have been doing for the past 3 months?

When he was brought back up from theatre Ben was in a lot of pain so they morphed him up again and he was out of it - I took this opportunity to stick my head under the sheets to inspect his man bits - ummmmmmmm lol sorry Ben I saw your shiny nob!

So what did I find?  two new catheters, one was draining into the bladder via the supra pubic and the other was draining out from willy. No sign of open perineal surgery so that was smiley face - ummmmmmmm - took a little visit to the nurses station and fell face first into a note written to the nurses from the consultant about Bens operation - so I had a little peak - ummmmmmmmm seems positive but not gonna get excited until surgeon comes to talk to us.

Ha ha move over Sherlock ;))

Well we only had to wait about 5 hours :((     as he didnt come back from theatre - but thats fine he was making someone else better :))

Our man Alastair came through - he said they were really amazed by Bens recovery to date!  They didnt expect what they found because of the severity of the injury..............................we knew Ben had suffered trauma the his urethra and that it had split and needed a splint  -today he told that when they did the emergeny surgery after the accident Bens urethra was totally disrupted and hanging out from underneath him. They were not able to insert the catheter at this time because they couldnt find the ends. When Ben went back to surgery to repair his pelvic floor repair two days later they tried again and managed to put the catheter/splint in. (thanks god) The surgeons were sceptical about the recovery to this area.

Today Ben was told that his urethra was back together in one piece and well on the way to being repaired.  His catheters have been reduced in girth (ouch - thats good :)) and he has another 8 weeks with them in place - then back in for another proceedure to re-evaluate. At this stage things will either be ok or nearly ok so there are a couple of options to consider for then.

Such great news, such a great day, Ben the super healer!!!!!!!!!!

So happy for you baby xx

Tuesday 2nd August 2011

Hi bloggers,

Ben had a great couple of hours on Saturday evening  it was Steve's birthday and the plan was to get Ben there for a little bit of fun boy time.  As he is managing a good 3 hours comfortably in his chair we tried to book a black cab over to Seven Kings but the greedy bleeders wanted £30.00 each way for a 4.6 mile journey!!

Plan B

Ben in wheel chair, my jag in road, Dave, me, Alex G and the Rach in situ - Wheelchair in situ by back door of  the Jag - then bobs your uncle Beno used his guns -  with the aid of my roof rack and shirt hanger (inside the car) he monkey barred himself in - woop way to go!

Another first and another emotional time :))

Ben had a great evening, when he got home it was tough getting back out oops! work in progress - slide board on its way :))

Woop woop x

Oh yeh and he was shagged most of Sunday lol

Sunday 31st July

Cant  beleive I have not  blogged since the 21st - dont know where the time goes! Apologies

Bens doing good :)  He has been really fed up with not being able to be vertical which is understandable!

We had two hospital visits last week the first was with the urologists to make sure Ben was fit for surgery next week.  He is going into Barts on Wednesday for Cystoscopy and urethroscopy these will assess the bladder and urethra to see if they are repaired. If the damage is repaired the surgeons will decide best way forward for retraining.  If things are not as they should be they will make sure Bens perineal wound is sufficiently healed for surgery and perform  a urethroplasty repair. So come Wednesday you guys please blow all your positive energy towards Ben

Out second visit last week was with the orthopaedics.  Bens pelvis was xrayed again and they were happy with this  - the pelvic structure  is an inch or so off line but this should not be a problem.  There is an area at the front of the pelvis which has not repaired but is filling with scar tissue.  Again the surgeon said this should not be a problem as the majority of the strength and weight bearing goes through the back of the pelvis. Ben was put back from being vertical until his next appointment on 17th August - he was upset about this :((   The consultant also spoke about the nerve damage in Bens righ leg it was not very encouraging but we are not taking to much notice at the minute as it is still very early days and Ben continues to amaze the professionals with his progress - his nerve damage is all about timing and regeneration - we are working on his nerves being like little sperm rather than little slothes!  "Positivity is the key"

Things are going well at home.  Ben is sleeping a lot but thats fine sleeping is helping his to heal.  He is eating and drinking well.  The nurses are still coming in but arn't much good to be honest but I suppose a bit re assuring when they assess Bens wounds.  The wounds are doing really well - it will be great when they are healed - another thing for him not to have to think about.

We still have not seen the OT or the physio bitch!  We have been home a month and she has visited only once.  She has also been on holiday and will call me tomorrow.

Physio in the community seems shite - I am investigating private physio but to be more specialised in pelvic rehabiliatation - so if you are reading  this and have some spare time feel free to have a google and inbox me the details - thank you xx    (also considering inpatient rehabilitation so again please help me find somewhere)

You guys who have been working with Ben thanks so much it is really helping and much more inspirational for Ben to be working with someone rather than on him own.  If there is anyone else who can spare an hour at some stage to work with Ben please drop me a text - it will really help to get Ben strong ready for when he is vertical and starts to learn to walk again.  (07989 356491) you Bywaters boys cant get your arses over here if you like :)) (pretty please)

Ben is transferring from bed to chair a lot easier now and does so everyday.  He is spending longer and longer in the wheelchair and does his workout in the chair.  He is comfortable with a good four hours now.

Thursday 21st July

Hi all

Bit of a funny old week really, Bens fed and just wants to get up and walk. He is feeling a bit apprehensive about things which is understandable. We all being very positive and encouraging him all the way. Cant wait till he can put a bit of weight through his legs and get some rehab under his belt.

We now have a few more appointments in the diary - next Tuesday 26th at Barts for a pre op assessment and xrays.  Then Wednesday 27th Mr Culpan the pelvic consultan at The Royal London for a review, Wednesday 3rd August operation at Barts regarding all the bladder and urethral goings on - depending on findings they will decide their course of action - can only do certain surgery if the perinial wound it totally healed -  they wont go into an exisitng wound for obvious reasons - so just need to wait and see nearer the time

Bens still not comfy because of the rod and screws. Viability have suggested he try another Mattress so thats coming today. Told her we still need a pressure cushion for the wheelchair and that Wankerdom was meant to sort it but he hasnt -  lovely lady and has also ordered Bens cushion and that will also be delivered today.

Ben has important exercises to do at home in his wheelchair for upper body and legs, its really important he does these - but sometimes its difficult to find the motivation. I find myself moaning at him and to be honest dont have the energy for that.  :(  I want to try to get a rota going for the next 3 weeks (until he starts physio) . It would be great if everyday someone could commit to spending an hour working with him - that way there will be a routine in place and Ben will look forward to working out with his pals :)) (special treat will be a game of Fifa on x box without me wineing on and on and on) Naomi ex fitness guru Shaw you also on my hit list! lol

I am gonna facebook this and send some texts - if you can help and commit to a time and date over the next 3 week period please can you please text me

Thanks a bundle

Thanks a millions

Monday 21st July

Hi all

I know I said last week that I was going to try hader to keep this up to date - I did try but there just dont seem to be enough hours in the day!  If I dont get in the shower more often will have Health & Safety visit us :((

Bens doing ok - the sleeping on the side didnt last we forgot to take into account he has the stoma on one side and catheter on the other, so its back to sleeping on his back and ever decreasing butt :(

Last Friday we had ambulance back to Barts for EMG - the nerve conducting test for his right leg.  They have identified which nerve is damaged - next step is to have scan to ascertain what the actual damage is.  Awaiting an appointment.

The weekend was nice for Ben he had 'The Boys' round for a Fifa challenge which went on till about 2 in the morning I think - needless to say he was knackered the next day but they all had a fun time!  Thanks boys :))

Its been a bit stressful as its so hard to fit everything that needs to be done. Bens been quite uncomfortable again especially when sleeping - think its the rod and screws going through the back of the pelvis and as he is always on his back and has no arse its painful - especially when its time to sleep and there are no distractions.  Waiting for the viability specialist to call me today for some advice.

Occupational Health have promised the world but we have not heard a word for 2 weeks - still awaiting all sorts of stuff and am totally pissed off with latest WANKERDOM - Tim the Twat grrrrrrrrr
I wrote this hours ago then stuff happened so just gonna push post

Thursday 13th July

OUCH OUCH CCCRRRRRAAACK OUCHER THAN OUCHIEST!!!!!

Yep you've guess it Bens x fix was removed today in clinic by pins site nurse and her box of medievil  looking tools - scary or what!!! Never seen anything like it or in fact heard anything like it - the sound of the first twist was like a breaking bone!

Well done Ben you coped so well all morphed up and plenty of gas and air - you are a star!

Bens x rays looked good but still some healing to be done so non weight bearing for the next month.  We have another appointment in 2 weeks just to make sure things continue to move forward in the right direction.

Ben is able to move from bed to wheelchair and back but thats about it for now - thats good enough :))))

He soooo excitied about sleeping on his side - we only in the door 5 minutes and this is what he was up to lol -night night Ben - sweet dreams - shame the bleeding nurse on her way round to man handle your wounds grrrrrrrrrr xx

Wednesday 13th July

Morning , :))

Really sorry for not keeping up to date there always seems to be something to do  - I will try harder

We are settleing in at home much better and know what needs to bo done it just dosn't always go to plan for one reason or another. Ben has his own private room (in our lounge!) fully equipped with all he needs - plus a massive TV at the foot of the bed and an x box loaned by Sam Pye - (I have banned bloody Fifa after 10pm)

We have three hospital appoinments with week, the first was on Monday with the trauma team.  They were pleased with Bens progress and gave some positive news with regard to his colostomy - they assured us thats Bens should have a trouble free reversal operation further down but he has to get better first :)) Brill news!

We have an appointment today with regard to the x fix being removed.  Ben had all his pelvic x rays taken on Monday so when we see his orthopaedic man today he will have all he needs to make a decision about removal. Lots of fingers crossed and send all your positive thought for it to be taken off today in clinic (ouch) Watch this space

Friday Ben has another appointment at Barts this is for an EMG which is a conductor test to assess the nerve damage to his right leg.

Ben is doing well generally, still has his ups and downs but that is only to be expected taking into account the trauma he has suffered to both physically and mentally. The progress Ben is making is still astounding his team.  Only on Monday were the radiologists looking gob smacked as he transferred himself with ease from bed to bed using just the strength of arms and arse shuffle:)) (new move for the dance floor in him red shoes boys)

Ben being home is good for all of us - its has its difficulties but we wouldnt have it any other way

Thanks everyone for their support

Kerry & co xx

OOPS THURSDAY 7th JULY (thanks Steve x)

Ben was supposed to go back into hospital yesterday to have both of his catheters changed and to have a cystogram and a urethrogram to check to
check the progress of repair.

We got a call from a Wankerdom (Urologist in training - Alexander) from Barts at 20.30 on Tuesday evening saying that the procedure and theatre time had been cancelled as his big boss Mr Junaid has said it is to soon - the urethral catheter needs to stay in for 10 to 12 weeks- this is a new ish procedure and there is evidence that the longer the splint is in place the better chance of repair and less invasive surgery later down the line.  Ok yep I get that but why the fffffff are you telling us this now? errrr communicuation?

I am not happy as my knowledge is that these catheters have a life span of 6 weeks and then there is a much bigger risk of complications and further infection. The ambulance was already booked for 0500 yesterday so I told Mr Wankerdom that we are still coming and want to see him.  I want him to look at Bens sites and answer all our questions as I am not confident having this catherter responsibility at home without better instruction. We went along to Barts, Wankerdom behave liked a complete prick - I told him what I thought - he wasn't happy but neither was I - requested he bring his boss as I have no confidence in their team (whilst in The London we had continous probs with this dept  - think its cos they are based in Barts and access to Bens notes is limited.

Mr Wankerdom eventually (awkward twat) came to see us with his boss (ha ha) Mr. Junaid and another partner in crime.

They listened, I listened and now understand, Wankerdom looked a bit like a scolded child and Mr Junaid was an absolute star, very professional and understanding -  apologised for his team.

Anyway that over for now ................................ Ben will not have his next operation under the urology umberella until 4 weeks time.

His urethral catheter has been plugged but we can open it up again if it looks like the super pubic is not flowing freely or the bladder is swelling.

We have lots of out patient visits/tests and stuff in the pipe line over the next few weeks but he will be staying home and ambulanced back and forth - WOOP WOOP

I know there are a lot of people who are asking to visit - thats cool but please give me a buzz first - thank you

Thanks a billion

Kerry & co

xx lots of love xx

Still Thursday 7th - keep nipping off to the tumble dryer! lol

We had the Occupational Health guy here as well on Tuesday I think it was - he was great and has taken away a long list of goodies that we would like to have here at home to make things easier for Ben and us - lets see if he is as good as his word.

I think we will have a points systems for fairy wings and grades of competance - ummmmm yeh for achievement?  :))

The wheelchair we hired is crap - it is very narrow and had to be because of getting through the doors. It has made it impossible for Ben to shuffle from bed to wheelchair as his x fix is so wide and the chair so narrow (hope you understand) When he gets into the chair there is only about a cm either side between fix and chair and if he knocks it - BIG OUCH!) Its also a bit light and flimsy so Bens confidence is not good.

BUT - its ok that chair is being puffed away today -( bye bye chair) We have a new fairy in the making who has very kindly loaned us a super duper wheelchair which is absolutely perfect and just what we needed!!!  Ben is now able to transfer and sit without to much problem at all.  Thank you soooooo much the differance in Bens ability and confidence is huge. Thanks also for leaving Ben so inspired after your visit.  You guys are an absolutely amazing for Ben - Thanks xx

Just got off the phone to my lovely friend - thanks so much fo the new catheter bag which you had someone steal from the ward for me lol - all my little pilfers -

BIG NEWS - I think the powers that be are sick of the sound of my voice (not the first time)  Ben had his new air mattress delivered yesterday and it must be very very comfy as he is still sleeping - it makes you jump though as every ten minutes or so the the air pockets change their position and it sounds like a bleedin dragons breathin fire into the room ;))

I

Thursday 7th July

We are having the district nurse every day and have a lovely Moji she is really good with Ben, dosn't scrimp on dressings and saline and goes the extra mile.  She cleans and dresses Bens wounds really well and her catch phrase is "ohhh sorry Ben" every second - its so funny :))  Today she will be getting her wings I am just finishing stitching them together with golden silk thread :))

We have ben visitied by the physio - ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm not sure about her yet - she dosn't seem very confident and I am a bit concerned that she actually seems scared of Bens x fix - she hasnt seen one before and seems to want to leave well alone until after it comes off - we do have some exercises to do with Ben so not to worried yet as we still have instruction from The London physios whose expectation of Ben is much higher.

He's still sleeping :))

Thursday 7th July

Oooooohhhhh lots has happened and Sam slept downstairs with Ben last night so I am energised this morning :)) Its only just 10am and beds stripped, 2 loads of washing done, dishwasher emptied and filled, washing away, kitchen sorted, floors swept - taking a break to catch up with the blog whilst Ben sleeps xx

Ben is doing well generally very up and down emotionally but more ups than downs which is great.  Home is feeling easier and we are actually getting into a bit of a routine but try to work around Bens sleep patterns really - sleeping is good as he is healing and he's got planty of that to do.

I have stolen lots of the nurses stuff and am presently trying to win over the peope that we like :)  If they impress us they will be issued with golden wings and get to join out team- we are gonna take care of  Bens every need and  will be known as ' The good fairies (sorry boys)  All the other nob heads we get lumbered with will be known as 'The wankerdoms'. We are gona have some fun with the Wankerdoms ;))

Monday 4th July

Bloody hell cant believe its July!!!!!  There will be Christmas stuff in the shops soon  :0

Anyway we are home for now, its great to have Ben here, there were a few days when we didnt think that would ever happen again ................................... so we are the happiest little peeps in the world :)))))

As far as we were concerned transfer to Queens hospital was not an option for now or any future inpatient rehab so our Benno is back with us - being at home will I am sure only speed Bens recovery  :)

Its great but it is also very difficult as we all have to find new ways to do things. This stupid house really isnt big enough or practical  for our current situation  but we are making the most of what we have. Some furniture moves, little purchases and changes as the needs arise are making things easier day by day.

Its especially hard for Ben as he now been removed from the safety of  hospital back to what was 6 weeks ago 'normal' - this is the new 'normal' for now and Ben is trying to come to terms with that. He is also  learing to trust us (if he asks me to explain his drugs each time I administer them once more I will pour them over his head! - lol - only joking hon if you read this)

We had a quite weekend so that we could try to settle in  and get into a bit of a routine. Appoinments all sorted for district nurses, occupational health specialists and physios. Procedures now worked out and understood for getting new drugs, booking ambulances, ect ect.

The days  fly by as there is just so much to do and routine is absoluely impossible! I am writing this at 0600 on Tuesday from the sofa downstairs and my alarm has gone off for another lorry load of tablets to be given  ( thanks Rachel for sleeping on the sofa on Saturday - I got some much needed kip)

Bens has a hospital bed which is great but the mattress is shite - in hospital he had an air mattress - the district nurses ordered Ben the sam but it was delivered with a lower grade foam matress.  I have been trying for four days now to get this sorted as Ben is really uncomfortable with pillows under his butt and legs and spine :((     Bleeding joke community services no one knows what they are doing are must talk to themselves cos they definately dont speak to each other! If they just say either yes or no - that wasy I can sort if out myself

The nurses are booked in daily for wound care and dressing changes - again they are absolutely crap I could do a better job myself - infact I will when I have nicked enough of their stupid prescious bloody dressing and saline. Dont think they like me much but dont give a shit to be honest,

Lets hope today is better with the occupational health and pysiotherapist - we are lacking in such basic equipment - ummmmmmmm this will be interest but I promise to be good ;)

Not finished and no idea if what I have written makes any sense as not read over - fell asleep with laptop on lap.gonna publish and check later.

Gonna go to sleep

Bye for now zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz xx

Thursday 30th July

Ben phoned in the middle of the night in a panic as the nurse doing the obs noted in his records that he has a temperature :(   He is worried they will keep in him!

David went over first thing and they told him all stations go ambulance coming at midday - blimey thats fantastic news we can harldy beleive it!  So much to sort and pack we have been living here for virtually 6 weeks now - dont panic he says - lol - is it too early for wine its 10.30am???

Then a call from Dave "ok dont worry but" - la la la the doctors have done their rounds and have decided that it would be best if they do a blood test to be on the safe side - dont want to send him home with an infection.

Ok so the ambulance is coming back at 3pm and results will be back at 2pm - like hell they will - la la la

Poor Ben getting himself in a right panic thinking they just dont want him to go home ........................

We eventually found out we could come home at about 5pm I think - Did you hear my screams of delight??? (embarrassing the old boy next to Ben dropped his falsies) (joking)

What a day - poor Ben yo really went through all the emotions today didnt you.

Home at last ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh wonderful - perfect, couldn't be happier  :))))))))))))))))))

Sam and Sam you made the house perfect - thankyou so much xx

Ben welcome home we are so proud of you - lots of hard work ahead of you but we have every faith and wil support you all the way  xx

Lots of love

Wednesday 29th June

Found out late last night that Ben wont be able to come home as he has another infection in his pin site.  The microbiologist and orthopaedics want him to stay in hospital until after he has had his treatment at Barts next week.

Oh dear dont want to be the one to deliver that news in the morning!

On the doctors round today Fran from Trauma know nothing about my update.  Off she popped and came back much later.  To Bens delight it has been decided that once IV antibiotics are finished he can come home - ok so back on track for tomorrow again

This is such a rollercoaster think our heads are going to explode soon - so will he, wont he, will he, wont he, will he, wont he,

and so we wait ..........................................

Poor Ben :((

Tuesday 28th June

Our sleepy bunny is still sleepy and sad and angry. Sausage roll, croissant, iced donuts and fat fat latte for breakfast :)

Ben's hospital Bed is like a power ranger it transformed into a bit of a chair like jobby

Soooooooooooooooo now it seems Ben may be able to come home end of week after all? with oral antibiotics and ambulance to Barts on Tuesday - then depending on how the procedure goes he will either be ambulanced back home or back to hospital - bleeding hell! Then ambulanced back for irons to be removed in 3 weeks

It is general consensus that a bit of home could be just what the doctor ordered for Ben - watch this space - see what happens tomorrow - guys if you plammimg to visit at the weekend just hold fire and watch this space. Its going to be tireing for all of us making this transition - thanks a bundle x

Met with ward sister, made my apologies, made my point, what a fantastic lady such an inspiration and so we carry on doing our job with Benno

Nice visits today - thank you guys xx

Fingers crossed for the next few days Ben we love you so much lovely boy

Sam - welcome home baby missed you so much and nice chcken xx

Nite Ben darling from us all xx see you tomorrow hons xx

Tuesday 28th June

I found out early this morning that Mandy has gone home as her husband did not make it - he lost his fight for life - there are no words ;(          -Life is so precious - Ben you are so precious

Monday 27th June

Spirits low all round at the minute we are all trying but this is just so hard especially for Ben

Another week, another Monday, another busy mad doctors day - So here we go -  pain medication not as controlled as it should be so thats been tweeked and added to

Bens iron work will be removed in 3 weeks time

Right leg really really painful

Catheters still infected

Booked into Barts nextt Tuesday for cyctogram and catheter change

Still on IV antibiotics

Ben has no energy is knackered, tired and miserable

Cheered up when visitors came today

The ward is hot and mad busy with too many visitors and it stinks!  Tempers are frayed. I was furious when I found out Ben  was fluked  into signing some visiting rules and regulation agreement.  When I found out I lost my rag, stormed into the nurses station snatched it back and ripped it into pieces in front of the nurses face whilst going into one at the same time! It took me 20 minutes to calm down, return and apologise. I have requested a meeting with the ward sister in the morning to disucss the care that David and I give to Ben on the ward day in day out.

More news but I dont have the energy to go into detail as things will probably change yet again tomorrow. Basically Ben  has another infection and he wont be able to come home until after his procedure at Barts tomorrow week or poss the Weds ...................................................................

Its been such an emotional day and it is obvious that Bens needs are changing constantly both mentaly and physically. We are a very close and loving family with a strong network of family and friends and will take this journey together. Our only concern is for Ben at the moment and if we upset anyone along the way we can only apologise and ask you to understand.

Thanks to everyone for their visits and messages of support please keep them coming as its good medicine for all of us especially Ben

Thank you to my sister Tina for everything - I love you the world

Cant wait to see Sam tomorrow

I am so worried about lady I met on Thurdsay evening in the hostel as I havn't seen her about?  Her hubby was involved in a hit and run cycle accident and has similar injuries to Ben - he is in intensive care. Fingers crossed he will do as well as Ben. We shared a bottle of sauvignon, talked about Ben and her hubby and had a big cuddle at the end of the evening. Be strong Mandy I am sure your man will do good xx

Lots of love

Ben wth friends from Oaks Park - Mel and Naomi

Just a few piccys

Oi get his bleeding hat off!

Sunday 26th June 5 weeks today

David and I both stayed over at the hospital last night as Sam and Sam are in Madrid for a little break

Ben happy this morning but then got upset about everything :((

He had a nice visits from Mel and Braddles today.

Spaghetti and sausages for brekky with little toast squares ahhhhhhhh bless and a really bad for you KFC - but he thoroughly enjoyed it.

He is having a lot of pain in his right leg which seems to be getting worse - Doctor day tomorrow so we can ask our questions then.

His abdominal woulds are healing nicely now as is the one underneath.

Infection seems controlled but the weather today has been a bummer in here.

This is really hard for you Ben but you are doing a great job honey xx

Lots of love

Mumma, dadda and Sambo on holiday

xx

Saturday 26th June

Ben very tired and miserable in the morning.  Was in pain a lot with wound cleaning and dressing changes as the nurse was really rough and kept karate chopping him! Wasn't funny at the time but the thought of it really makes me laugh :))

Lovely quiet day with a nice visit from Nanny and Grandad :))

Then it was just David and myself -  chilled day

Love you Benzo

Friday 24th June

We were kind of under the impression that we might still be able to bring Ben home today if we can arrange for his iv antibiotics to be administered. I have spoken to the district nurses and they are happy to do this for Ben. However changing the canula may be a problem - (not a problem I can get this sorted :)

We discussed this with Fran - one of Bens trauma surgeons and thats a definate no no no no no no no no :(  and not an option  She said if there are complications he needs to be here so they can look after him. Ok so thats that then :(

Ben has been booked into Barts on Tuesday week for has his catheters to be changed. Until then his infection needs to be managed.

Lovely visit from Ruth Hill today - you said some good things - thank you -  Oops we forgot to take a piccy :(

Lovely one to one with aunty Tina  (thats a first I think!)

Lovely visit with Sam and Sam before their trip to Madrid

Lovely visit with Rachel before her holiday and more cup cakes :)

Ben very sleepy after the past two very stressful days

Stab night came early!!!!!!!!! This morning there were 3 fully armed officers guarding a critically ill patient on our ward. They were protecting him as they were expecting the killer to come back and finish the job! This hospital is unbeleivable - nothing like Holby lol

There are four guys in our room -  our Ben,  lovely Peter who has suffered a really horrific accident and lost both his legs, then a young guy who has been attacked with a machete half his arm missing and a split open stomach - nice!  lastly another young lad who have been stabbed 14 times. ummmmmmmmmm gang warfare!

Good night darling boy, sleep tight

Thursday 23rd June

What a shit crap day :((

Urology eventually turned up at about 1600 from Barts when they should have been here early this morning. Ben is so angry.  They knew nothing about Ben or his case - they decided on a plan of action but catheter removal not an option  as its to early for the urethra to have repaired, taking it out now is a definate no no. Ben has been booked into Barts Tuesday week.  In the meantime a course of antibiotics and he can still come home :)

Half an hour later.................................. in comes one of Bens doctors from the trauma team with a very differant story?

Basically it is not an option for Ben to come home. He needs to stay here for iv antiobiotics and to be monitored. There is a possibility he will become poorly because of the infection so he will need to be cared for professionally.

We are all so disappointed :((

Ben is so angry !!

Suggestions please for him to vent his anger bearing in mind he is quite restricted at the minute because of his abdominal wounds and metal work.

Facebook Ben, he wont answer but he does look at it - thanks

Sorry Ben you are so dwon :((   but it is for the best hon - if I see that guy from Barts I will  stick a kebab with extra chilli sauce up his arse ;))

Keep being strong you are doing so well!

Mumma, Dad and Sambo

Massive thanks to all of you guys supporting Ben it really helps and his visits are the high point of his day. I know there a lot of people who still want to come but have been waiting - thanks for that :)  Its fine now so give me a text on 07989 356491 to sort out a date

To our unofficial messenger you know who you are. Ben is allowed visitors so stop telling people otherwise you are so pathetic and should be ashamed of yourself.  Always such an attention seeker its amazing how many people cant see through you.

Tuesday 21st June

Trying to get things sorted for Ben to come home - so much to sort out!

Ben is still having trouble down below and test results not back yet. Had another cystogram today to see whats going on with the bladder and urethra/catheters

Aiming to come home for 3 weeks rather than transfer to Queens Hospital.  Looking at either Thursday or next Monday but need results from abdominal swabs and urine to make sure there isn't any bacterial growth.

Lots of nice visits today from Aunty Kath, Nathan, Rach and Alex (I think)

Monday 20th June

Love Monday! Love Ben!

We got lots of info today which was all positive and heading in the right direction :)))))

Ben morpine has been upped from 80mg twice a day to 120mg twice a day and he still has hourly access to another 20mg if he needs it - today was great for Ben his pain was so much beter controlled - happy days :))

Still waiting for Orthopaedics we are hopeing he will come tomorrow - however there was a team meeting with him yesterday and the news is that the scan they did of Bens pelvis yesterday looks good. As we understand it they are looking to remove the x fix in 3 weeks

Underneath wound looking great and healing beautifully they thing another 2/3 weeks and we'll be there :))

Right leg doing ok and much better controlled with pain now morph upped

Ooooooh catherter down stairs excrutiating! Awaiting blood test and urine samples for infection :((

Back in for further surgery in about 7 weeks to see if urethra repaired and does the job :))

Abdominal wound still really nasty but a couple of areas do actually look slightly improved - waiting for swab results

Great news - as we didnt want  the transfer to Queens Bens rehab is going to be at home. He will have a nurse coming in every day possibly twice a day whilst he needs it.  Also physio coming home until the metal work is removed. We are looking at the end of the week or early next week which is amazing as we were first told he could be in hospital anything from 3 to 6 months!!! Every Doctor and team member working with Ben cant believe his progress! Young, fit, healthy and determined lad - go Beno! We are so so so so proud of your strength of body and mind - you are amazing!

Now is a mad rush (but thats fine we just want Ben home :)) trying to get everything in place for the transition home We are working with occupational health - its like a military operation - ambulances, out patients appoinments, hospital bed rental, wheelchairs, tables, surgery bookings, drugs and more drugs, nurses, physio, bags for this and bags for that, potions and lotions and mattress's and cushions and OMG - we just have a little house at the minute!

Thanks to everyone who has been here for Ben and to all the visotors and well wishers - you have all helped Ben to be strong, feel supported and loved - you to are all amazing too :))

Fingers crossed we stay on track - keep up the good work this week Ben - evey day is a step nearer to home

Haha Mr Richie - thanks for bringing  Ben's certificates today - Ben Staab what are you like 3 Bleeding A levels without even trying and you could not be bothered to pick up your certificates! - when you feeling better I am gonna give you such a slap boy!

Lots of love

Sunday 19th June 4 weeks today!

Happy Fathers Day Daddy - Hope you liked you man bag lol

Bloody hell cant believe this has been happening for four weeks!!!!!!!!

Bad morning for Ben lots of pain they really need to sort out the cocktail - when he was in intensive care it did take a week so can understand but watching the pain is shits ville :((

Nurse Sam & I sorted him out in the morning - go girls - Tina and Rachel went on a wander to Petticoat Lane.

Once Ben was morphed up he was a lot better - its all about pain control!!

Sam and I took Ben for a walk in the chair and left him stranded for the girls to find in a deserted corridor ;)  water out of reach and by the bin! Such a giggle but Ben got pissed off waiting in the end lol sorry Ben! Pictures on the way xx

Have 6 pages of questions for each of the surgical teams, cant wait for tomorrow, poops I am  so institutionalised forgot about fathers days and ousted poor hubby from the room as soon as he got there - sorry hubs :((   You did have nice times after we went when you prodded Ben and woke him up!!!

Grrrrrrr naughty but nice - you are a good Daddy  xx

Thanks to my sis for all the support you are amazing Nigel

Sam you are a star baby

David we all love you bundles

Lots of right leg nerve pain today.  Abdominal wound still not looking likes its doing much at all.  Lots of pain and confusion with catheters. More cup cakes fom Rachel as sweeteners for the nursing staff hahahaha - keep it up Rachel ;)

Looked like an emotional visit with Perry Sopho - we luv you xx

Still dont like the weekends here it does not instill confidence.

Naughty sleep over with Sam, Tina and Rach, visit to Nandos and too much wine - touch of normality is just what the doctor ordered

Alright Nigel lol

Friday 17th June

Ben should have been in a limo all tarted up and off to Ascot with Brads family and friends for the day. That obviously cant happen so Ascot is coming to Harrison Ward :)  Brad and Sam you are such cuties for spending the day here with Ben instead - David you need to learn how to blog as I have no idea if you guys had any winners? Good time had by all though :))

Sam Pye I am disappointed in you for not dressing up as a horse!

Medically - It was meant to be a quiet day for Ben today so he could just chill with pals - he did eventually but because of a problem with his abdominal wound site he was again pulled and pushed and prodded. The area is not healing so another swab has been taken - once the results are back we will be advised and given a treatment plan.  It is such a shame this area is causing so much trouble :((

Bens right leg has a lot of nerve damage and has been giving him more and more pain over the past few days.  Still trying to get the medication cocktail right - getting there.

He was also taken of unexpectedly for a pelvic xray - No one knew about it on the ward? Must have been requested by the 'big boys'  Cant get any results till Monday as another shite weekend is looming!

Not sure if I mentioned before but there was talk of transferring Ben to Queens hospital until his fixator is ready to be removed in 2-4 weeks - None of us were happy about this. We have been talking with the trauma team and occupational health about our concerns. It has been agreed that Ben can bypass Queens and come home when his wounds look like they are healing and he is able to get him self  back and forth from bed to wheelchair. Great news!!

Soooooooooooooe need to hire or buy a hospital bed, a couple of wheechairs and one of those electrical recliners that shoves you out haha - does any one have any contacts?

We were prepared for 'Friday night stab night' in Whitechaple but didnt happen as this afternoon we took delivery of another 3 patients who are more long term - so now more daily in and outs of arseholes and old bill :))

One of the new 'guests' is Andy - he had a cycling accident and was in the intensive care room with Ben when they were both critical a few weeks ago. Its funny our families know each other so well now - they were both formally introduced today :)) I am sure they will forge a lasting friendship and benefit immensly from chatting to each about their accidents and feelings - BT says" its good to talk"

My Sister told the girls (Rosie and Amy) about Bens accident yesterday and they came to see Ben today. They are only young and took the news really well. They were over the moon to see 'their Ben'. Now we stop telling little white lies :)) Well done girlies for being so brave xx.

Hugs and kisses all round was a good day today

Love you the world Ben we are all so very proud of your strength and courage

Looking forward to a peacful weekend in Harrison with our new guests :))

Thursday 16th June

The days go so fast here and there is no specific time for dressing changes, washing, physiotherapy, Doctor visits, pain team visits, research visits ect - but we do know lunch is at 12 and dinner at 6 :)
Ben had a special xray today to see if his bladder laceration has repaired - it was distressing for Ben but he did a grand job - thanks for your support ladies (you know who you are)

We had some conflicting reports and goalposts changes which again was upsetting for Ben. Dont think the communication between the 'old boys' was great today - come on urology sort yourselves out please. Bens bladder tear is repaired so step 1 in the right direction - woop woop Benny Boy! Step 2 in either two weeks or 4/5 weeks ? confused.com, another question for the 'big boys' on Monday morning.

Well done today David and Ben xx

Well done today Sam on getting through your media exam - you are a star xx

Thanks to everyone for your on going support xx

Wednesday 15th June day 24 possibly

Phoned ward as per normal at 0400 -  his lovely nurse for the night Arnie told me he had been sleeping since I left last night at 2100 - whoop :)

Went to see Ben at 10am laden with full on fatty food to replace the store which his body is eating up! - sausage in roll with too much butter! hot cross bun with too much butter, sausage roll and a full fat latte with too much sugar :)

Thank goodness he was a lot brighter today, fed, watered and visit from pain team.  Upped his morpine to 80mg twice a day he has access to morphine orally as well - another 20mg hourly - thanks for that :)) Gonna re assess other pain and nerve meds in the morning

We bumped loads of medical peeps today so Ben could have a chilled, less stressful day. No physio. I went to Argos to buy weights for Ben and nearly passed out carrying them back - forgot they would be heavy! (What an arse!)

Nice lunch, visits from Dee, Phil, Craig Foster ,Danielle Lou and Lee - forgive me if I have forgotten you lol am brain dead!

Nice lunch - thanks hopital, Nice dinner thanks Kath xx

Tuesday 14th June Day 23

Ben had an ok morning but it gradually deteriorated as the day went on.  His self administrating PDA was removed so the expectation was that the pain team would again need to find the right dosage of morphine and his other pain medications.

He had a nice visit from Francis and Gema. When they left if all went a bit pear shaped for Ben and he was in terrible pain for a few hours.

It was all a bit full on today with no breaks in between washing, rolling and dressing changes.  As soon as this was over it was the physio's getting him in and out of the wheelchair.  Too much for a very hot day and not well controlled pain releif.

Sad and disressing day for Ben - hon you are amazing and doing a fantastic job - weak you are not!!!! Everyone is willing you on.  Keep strong honey  you are gonna have good days and crap days but everyday is a day nearer to you coming home lovely boy xx

We love you bundles and will be here every step of the way with you x

Bring on the liquid morphine please!

Monday 13th June Day 22 (I think)

Monday is Dr Day so armed with notebook, pen and lots of questions

Need to get some weight back on the boyo so plenty of protein, carbs and fats! Gotta stop that body of yours eating your fat store. Thanks aunty Tina for sausage in a roll for brekky, then Percy Ingle for saugage roll, donut and a fat coffee with far to much sugar! Lunch from the hospital mince meat, rice, carrots and brocoli followed by rice pudding. Thanks Gill for the lovely roast dinner and that yummy stuffing !!!! Plus the protein drinks and snacks

Ben was a happy bunny this morning - visit from his pelvic surgeon  Mr Bates and his team - what an amazing man :))  All positive feedback, he is happy with the repair to date and says its all fitting back together better than expected. We will get a progress xray at week 4. His bones are mending well.  Bens right leg has nerve damamge so it may take up to 18 months to get back to normal.  Lots of nerves have died or been badly squashed and bruised but they will regenerate over time. Interesting to find out that nerves regrowth at the same rate as finger nails. He has better movement in his left leg today and can put just a little weight through it when trying to manouvre from his bed to his wheelchair.

Visit from general surgeons - they are happy with his underneath wound. It is clean and has lot of good red tissue and blood supply.  Still packing and dressing daily.  The abdominal would is still a mess but the surgeon managed to cut away a lot of the dead tissue (well done Ben!!!) This is going to take some time to heal but looking  positive.

Ben bones will mend and his woulds will totally heal in time. He will have some great shark stories to tell in his speedos on the beach!

Visit from pain team - Reassessed medication - still on PDA morphine and other pain medication but now bringing in something new for him nerve pain.

Visit from Trauma Team - they are amazed by him progress :))

Visit from Occupational Health - talking about home and needs in the coming weeks

Visit from physio - Ben did a great job of getting himself from bed to wheelschair and back. Not much help from anyone! Well done boyo - nice little walk  for about 15 minutes xx

Good day well done Staaby xx

Wednesday 8th June (cant think what day number)

David slept at the hospital last night so it was morning duty for him - but its lovely - quality time :)
He had to meet with a specialist nurse at 10am on the ward to look at potential problem with one of Ben's thingies but all was well and site is being monitored.  Poor Ben - emotional morning bit of a melt down (good thing) so much to cope with - didn't help being so shattered after his day yesterday with the prick opposite (Sorry Mr Patient) who snored/snorted/groaned/grunted all bloody night and caused my boy stress! (if it had been me in Ben's bed I would be thinking 'oh well another night in Staabville'! Anyway -  Mr Patient poodled off home this morning - good news! Expectation of who is gonna be joining us next though????

Ben was trollied (no such word) off to ultrasound with hubby in tow - there he waited for 2 hours .........................  then back to ward and its like maybe 2.30pm or 3.00pm?  Sam and I had bought a special treat (yuck) chicken nugget happy meal with a strawberry milk shake and a toy  (bless) - but by the time he got back bloody  COLD :(         He still ate it all and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thing is we didn't realise till 5pm when chatting to Ben that he had not been washed. bed hadn't been changed, dressings not changes, rods and bars not cleaned, site wounds not cleaned and dressed, packing not sorted and bag full of pee pee!!! hmmmmmm sooooooo mummy staab did one at the nurse (oooooh but had to be said!)
All sorted - lovely clean boy and then shaved by Dadiosa - looks amazing - just wanted to try to wash his hair but not having any of it today - knackered he is - oh well anther day tomorrow.

Bye bye tired Sam and well done today you are a star, bye bye David sorry I got cross this morning x

Hello uncle Charlie who popped in. You really made Ben laugh massaging his leg very fast, actually too fast! Fancy making my boy think rude thoughts about Rachel - haha love to see you smile and giggle like that Ben xx

All in all an eventful day, oh yeh  there is a wheelchair with Ben's name on it in the unit - so watch this space :))

Sleep tight little man we all love you bundles and are so proud of you and Sam you are a star the bestest!!!!

The nurses were trying to get him to slide from trolley to bed but it was kinda like a double bed and he thought the nurse was gonna jump in with him! lol cheeky sod - very funny and another big giggle from ben x x
