Operation day - Urology at Barts - big day!
Not a great start Dumb and Dumber arrive hour and half late to take us to the hospital. They were meant to be with us at 0500 and turned up at 06.35 - so stressful! :(( Poor Ben has been waiting for this day and so anxious he wont get to the hospital in time for his operation.
I was so angry and didnt I let them know it! Lazy bastards should have got up earlier, he said he was tired and didnt like early mornings, I told him to get a new job! WANKERDOM!
We were late grrrrrrrrrrr!
Ben was meant to go down to theatre for about 1.5 hours but disappeared for 3 hours :((
The point of today was to find out what Bens bladder and urethra have been doing for the past 3 months?
When he was brought back up from theatre Ben was in a lot of pain so they morphed him up again and he was out of it - I took this opportunity to stick my head under the sheets to inspect his man bits - ummmmmmmm lol sorry Ben I saw your shiny nob!
So what did I find? two new catheters, one was draining into the bladder via the supra pubic and the other was draining out from willy. No sign of open perineal surgery so that was smiley face - ummmmmmmm - took a little visit to the nurses station and fell face first into a note written to the nurses from the consultant about Bens operation - so I had a little peak - ummmmmmmmm seems positive but not gonna get excited until surgeon comes to talk to us.
Ha ha move over Sherlock ;))
Well we only had to wait about 5 hours :(( as he didnt come back from theatre - but thats fine he was making someone else better :))
Our man Alastair came through - he said they were really amazed by Bens recovery to date! They didnt expect what they found because of the severity of the injury..............................we knew Ben had suffered trauma the his urethra and that it had split and needed a splint -today he told that when they did the emergeny surgery after the accident Bens urethra was totally disrupted and hanging out from underneath him. They were not able to insert the catheter at this time because they couldnt find the ends. When Ben went back to surgery to repair his pelvic floor repair two days later they tried again and managed to put the catheter/splint in. (thanks god) The surgeons were sceptical about the recovery to this area.
Today Ben was told that his urethra was back together in one piece and well on the way to being repaired. His catheters have been reduced in girth (ouch - thats good :)) and he has another 8 weeks with them in place - then back in for another proceedure to re-evaluate. At this stage things will either be ok or nearly ok so there are a couple of options to consider for then.
Such great news, such a great day, Ben the super healer!!!!!!!!!!
So happy for you baby xx
Mumma x
