Tuesday 31st May Day 9

Omg what a mental day!!

Bit of a mummy melt down nut nut day today but results were positive as we got lots of answers :)

Ben is doing really well he is our little ox - so full of strength! He was moved yesterday evening to a different intensive care ward where there were less critical patients for ben to see. Over the last couple of days he has gradually had drips and canulas removed and has coped very well. He has been taken off of some meds as well. Ben is still really morphined up because of pain and is therefore still sleeping loads - however saying that today has been his best day :))
Because of mummy melt down we got to speak to some of his surgeons and the team looking after him. Good news is that the external fixator for the pelvic repair should do the job so as long as we stay on track is is likely that he won't have to have an internal repair but obviously he will need to have the irons removed (that was for you Rachel!) to be continued x

Monday 30th May Day 8

Ben had a good night last night and managed to get some nice zzzzzzzzzzzz in.  He has a new mattress which is all wibbly wobby and will allow him to be much more comfortable :)) His pain seems to be better controlled which is great :)

We just dont know where the time goes here?  It's 2.30 in the afternoon and Bens just trying to have a bit of breakfast -( yummy frosties) - followed by a high protein shake - (not so yummy)

Thanks to Aunty Kath he's looking forward to her very lovingly made lamb casserole for dinner

We are still in intensive care.  Ben is doing really well - he has been very swollen with fluids but this is now going down. He is infection free and making all the right noises for a transfer to The High Dependency Unit within the next couple/few days.

Keep up the good work Superman Ben we all love you zillions and zillions

Welcome home from Germany Sam Pye - dont bore my baby with all that  football crap when you get here Please ;))

Ben had a good Morning, nice shave a la daddy, hair wash a la mummy ;) Ben had a good couple of hours this morning but that was about it. He had brekky and then chucked it up :(((
Very uncomfortable! Rest of day rushed by in a blur of not fun times until we gave him his iPod this evening. Tins and I will never forget his face - the emotional realisation of normality was huge! Tears and smiles and tears -"I can do this" Ben said

Our son is amazing and a really special young man we know he will bring inspiration to others just like you Mr Foster - thankyou x x

Saturday 28th May

Ben had a good start to the day was very much the Ben we all know and love:) He is still in intensive care but on the move to high dependency soon. He is struggling with a temperature but they seem to be keeping it under control. You all know how much Ben loves a kip - he did a marathon session yesterday! His pain appears to be under control which is good - just makes him so so out of if - but that's fine

It was good news that the nursing staff said he now needs to be stimulated so we brought in his laptop and a wireless dongle. Hopefully over the next few days he will show some interest. David did try to watch the match with him last night but he kept falling asleep! ( don't blame him!)

Friday 27th May

There has been some confusion regarding Bens accident. Last Sunday whilst at work he was driving a fork lift and when reversing it over balanced. Not sure of the details but it landed on him crushing his pelvic area. He is in THe Royal London Hospial for at least 2 months. So plenty of time to visit. He is not well enough for lots Of visits at the minute so please check with us before coming. You can comment on here and I will respond when I can.

Thanks and hope this clears up the confusion

Thursday 26th May

Ben was in theatre again yesterday for more surgery. What he had done was successful and beneficial for future operations. Ben is still in intensive care at the moment. The surgeons are fantastic and we feel very safe in their hands. His nurse is amazing and shares everything with us so we understand what's happening as well as Ben. For now we are taking one day at a time. Bens pelvis has been repaired externally and he will be in this for the next 8 weeks. After this time his pelvis will be re-assessed for the next course of action. Bens is on a high cocktail of painkillers so has been in out of it. He is managing a bit of food now - corn flakes this morning which apparently were horrible - if they were that horrible why did Tina tell me he was drinking the last bit out of the bowl!!!!!

He had a visit from James (a work colleague) a little while ago who has dropped Ben right in it - seems my darling boy has been giving away my lovingly hand made packed lunches! Bloody little fibber tells me everyday how much he enjoys his lunches and that eats everything I give him???? Just you wait Staaby - there will be trouble ahead!

25/05/11

Hello,
Ben is out of surgery for today but no updates yet. Obviously its been a difficult few days for Ben. We think it's best to keep visitors to a minimal for the time being as any energy that Ben has needs to be used on getting well again. When he is feeling better he will really appreciate seeing everyone and will then be able to remember the people who have been here to see him! We hope you understand and we will stay in contact regarding visits x

25/05/11 - Day 4

Hey,

Thanks to everyone for your messages, texts and phone calls. We all really appreciate it and are making sure that Ben gets all the love and hugs he is being sent. We are finding it very dificult to keep on top of replies on an individual basis so are therefore going to give regular updates on this blog.

Yesterday was really tough for Ben and he was up and down all day. This was to be expected after spending eight hours in theatre on Monday. He suffered some internal lacerations in the accident which caused complications. These have been temporarily dealt with. Ben is going back into theatre this afternoon - we are praying that they find him internally infection free which will allow them to deal with one particular nasty wound. This in turn will allow the surgeons to prepare him internally for reversal surgery in the future. Make sure all your energy today is positive!

With regards to him shattered pelvis etc - we have this morning found out that the surgeons are happy with the way things went in theatre and that the bones are infection free. This enabled them to put him back together neat and tidy for now. He is externally screwed and pinned for the next eight weeks.

He will be going back into Intensive Care after surgery today. We will get back to everyone as soon as we have any news.

Love Kerry, David and Sam x
